Any other ideas? After reading many threads on similar subjects I decided to try one suggestion. But it appears that any Microsoft updates require IE to function so I have concerns about not being able to get IE back up and functioning. I just now tried typing 'Desktop' (no quotes) into the address bar and I get the same alert box, this time containing "'Desktop' is currently unavailable." but I also get a Firefox).
